Arthur Fils defeats Mikael Ymer in Lyon Open Round of 16

Ymer disqualified after smashing umpire's chair

Fils advances to quarter-finals

French wildcard Arthur Fils moved into the quarter-finals of the Lyon Open when Swede Mikael Ymer was defaulted from their second round match at Parc de la Tete d'Or on Wednesday.

Ymer, ranked 134th in the world, was disqualified after smashing a hole in the umpire's chair in frustration after Fils had won the first set 6-3 and was leading 4-1 in the second.

The incident occurred after Ymer had been given a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. He had previously been warned for smashing his racquet.

Fils, who is ranked 36th in the world, said he was "surprised" by Ymer's outburst.

"I didn't really understand what happened," Fils said. "I was just trying to play my game and stay focused on the match. It's a shame that it ended like this."

Fils will now face eighth seed Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals.
