Mark Meadows Hearing

Mark Meadows Testifies in Attempt to Move Georgia Election Case to Federal Court

Hearing on Meadows' Bid for Court Move Ends Without Ruling

Meadows Claims Immunity from State Prosecution as Part of His White House Duties

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows testified in a federal courtroom in Georgia on Monday, arguing that he was acting within the scope of his duties when he questioned the 2020 presidential election results and attempted to overturn them.

The hearing began shortly after 10 a.m. with the defense calling Meadows to the stand. The defense went over Meadows' duties as chief of staff and assistant to former President Donald Trump.

Meadows is one of 18 defendants charged in a sprawling 41-count indictment in Fulton County for allegedly participating in a conspiracy to overturn Trump's election loss. The indictment alleges that Meadows was part of a group that attempted to pressure Georgia officials to change the election results and interfere with the electoral process.

In his testimony, Meadows said that he was acting on behalf of Trump when he set up meetings and called state officials about the election results. He argued that his actions were part of his job as chief of staff and that he is therefore immune from state prosecution.

However, prosecutors argued that Meadows' actions went beyond the scope of his duties and that he was acting as a private citizen when he attempted to overturn the election results. They also argued that Meadows is not immune from state prosecution because he was not acting at the direction of the president.

The hearing ended without a ruling from the judge. The judge is expected to issue a written decision at a later date.
