Blast Rocks City Center, Prompting Evacuations

Rescue Workers Comb Through Debris, Investigating Cause

A powerful explosion ripped through a building in central Paris on Wednesday, injuring at least 37 people and causing a partial collapse of the structure. Rescue workers combed through the debris on Thursday, searching for survivors and investigating the cause of the blast.

The explosion occurred in the Latin Quarter, a busy tourist area, at around 9:10 a.m. local time. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang and seeing smoke and flames rising from a building on Rue Vieille-du-Temple.

The force of the explosion shattered windows and sent debris flying into the street. It also caused the facade of the building to collapse, trapping people inside. Firefighters and emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and evacuated nearby buildings.

According to officials, four people were critically injured in the blast. The other 33 injured were taken to hospitals with various injuries, including burns, cuts, and fractures.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a gas leak or a terrorist attack. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the incident.

The explosion has shaken the city and raised concerns about safety in one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. Authorities have increased security in the area and are urging people to remain vigilant.
