Set 64 years before the events of The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel novel and upcoming film that delves into the origins of the infamous Hunger Games.

The novel, written by Suzanne Collins, author of the original The Hunger Games trilogy, was released in 2020 and has since been adapted into a film directed by Francis Lawrence. The film, starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, and Viola Davis, is set to release in November 2023.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows the story of Coriolanus Snow, the future tyrannical president of Panem, at the age of 18. As a student at the Capitol's prestigious academy, Snow mentors Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12. Amidst the simmering tensions and political machinations of the Capitol, Snow must navigate his own ambitions while confronting the reality of the Hunger Games.
